Allergies
Allergic diseases are very common, and the incidence of allergies is increasing at an alarming rate. Over 20% of the U.S. population, totaling approximately 50 million people, are estimated to suffer from a wide range of allergic conditions, such as allergic rhinitis, food allergies, drug allergies, and allergic asthma. In most cases, the allergy is a manifestation of immune dysfunction. Clinical research has shown that adverse food reactions, regardless of the underlying mechanisms, can result from and contribute to immune dysfunction and chronic inflammation, and exacerbate or promote illnesses including thyroid disease, depression, asthma, rhinitis, migraines, attention deficit, hyperactivity disorders, gastrointestinal inflammation, and joint pain.
Conventional and integrative medicine have different approaches to treatment. While conventional medicine physicians tend to treat each disease state and symptom separately, the integrative approach seeks to diminish the underlying allergic predisposition through laboratory evaluation-based nutritional adjustment, use of supplements, correction of gastrointestinal dysbiosis, and via the eradication of harmful intestinal yeast, bacteria, and parasites.
